Equal Pay - An introductory guide

Frontpage

Ensuring that the work done by women and men is valued fairly and ending pay discrimination is essential to achieving gender equality. However, pay inequality continues to persist and gender pay gaps in some instances have stagnated or even increased.

As unequal remuneration is a subtle chronic problem, it is difficult to overcome without a clear understanding of the principle of equal remuneration for men and women for work of equal value.

This Guide clarifies the concepts underlying this principle, which is at the heart of the ILO's Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100) and offers insights on how it can be applied in practice.
